I loved the idea so obviously I wrote back. I have a never ending list of questions and instead of spreading it out over the several people I've already been talking to, funneling it into one may be great! We were supposed to request who we wanted in a buddy. Examples included race, religion, gender, age, interests, education level, family status, desires after the Peace Corps, job before the Peace Corps, job in the Peace Corps ect. I didn't think about it for long before writing back and requesting a volunteer under 30 who is in the CYD program. I honestly couldn't think of anything else.
So I got Amie.
She's 28, a CYD volunteer, and from Pennsylvania. She friended me on Facebook fairly quickly, which was great because I wanted to stalk her a bit before reaching out. The first thing I noticed was that she was married and her husband joined her in Armenia. I immediately regretted my decision to not request a single volunteer. I didn't realize how much I needed support with this impending separation until I saw her profile page. This past week has been almost impossible dealing with the fact that Scott and I are seperating. He started it and both of us have been in a state of tears at one point or another over the past week... Could have, would have, should have...
I continued. Her "about me" says she's a "proud lefty and wildly liberal," loves traveling, originally wanted to serve in Africa, and "quotes way too many movie lines."
I think I'm in good hands.
